Carlyle’s bar & kitchen is a friendly, family run restaurant in the heart of Balerno.
We are passionate about food and pride ourselves on a menu created using fresh & locally sourced high welfare produce, much of which is hand picked from our allotment.
Our newly refurbished building was designed to create an oasis of calm with open original stone walls, up cycled reclaimed furniture, a hand crafted tables and a solid oak bar. We wanted to open a venue with a relaxed casual dining ambiance perfect for a relaxing brunch, lunch with friends or dinner followed by drinks at the weekend.
Chef proprietor, Ali Carlyle has worked in top class restaurants around the world from Edinburgh’s fine dining scene to seafood restaurants on Australia’s famous Sydney harbour.
Our menu is rooted in British produce and underpinned with an asian influence from our chef proprietors time spent over the continent.
Our wine partners in Linlithgow have carefully selected our wine list to suit our varied menu. Our staff are happy to guild you through the best match for your food.
Our menu is created with fresh, seasonal ingredients, with a range of vegetarian and vegan options available. The majority of our produce comes from Scottish suppliers who guarantee quality and ethically sourced meats and vegetables. We also grow our own herbs, fruit and veg throughout the year that we regularly incorporate into our dishes.
Our family has lived in Balerno for 9 years. As well as the gateway to the stunning Pentland hills, you may also find yourself here by following the famous Water of Leith route. With stunning scenery and surrounded by the countryside, Balerno is very popular with walking groups and those wanting to explore a little further out of the city.
As a business we are always working on trying to reduce our carbon footprint, so we carefully select the suppliers we work with.
We are huge supporters of Vegware packaging. Founded in Edinburgh, their packaging is made from plant based materials as opposed to conventional plastic disposables. The materials used in Vegware products are renewable, sustainably sourced and create less carbon emissions in the manufacturing process.
All of our menus and business cards are printed on 100% recycled paper and we try to communicate with our customers via digital methods as opposed to sending printed marketing materials.
